WHAT IS ICON WHITE SPOT TREATMENT?
ICON is a non-invasive treatment that can improve the appearance of mottled teeth or white spots on teeth without the need for drilling. This treatment helps to blend and minimize the appearance of white spots, restoring a more uniform and natural tooth color. It preserves the natural tooth structure and can often be completed in a single visit.
White spots can be caused by:
- Fluorosis – excessive consumption of fluoride when adult teeth are developing
- Decalcification of enamel – loss of enamel material due to poor oral hygiene, braces, or plaque acids
- Pregnancy complications – premature birth can lead to white spots on the child’s tooth
- Trauma
WHAT IS THE TREATMENT PROCESS?
During a consultation, a series of preoperative photos and X-rays will be taken. The treatment involves the infiltration of a resin into the pores where the white spots are situated. A gel applied to the tooth surface initially opens these pores up to allow the resin to flow into the area that is being treated. This cycle is repeated until the white spots disappear, and this may take several cycles depending on the severity of the case.
It's important to note that ICON is not suitable for all types of white spots or advanced tooth decay cases.
